eduwebconf: We will be starting the twitterview with Suraj Kika from @JaduCMS in ten minutes. Please follow #eduweb for the twitterview.
eduwebconf: @jaducms - Suraj, are you ready for the @eduwebconf twitterview today? #eduweb
jaducms: #eduweb Hi there, yes indeed - very exciting.
eduwebconf: @jaducms for our followers, this is Tom Williams doing a twitterview with Suraj Kika, CEO of Jadu… #eduweb
surajkika: Im doing a twitterview with #eduweb - tweeting from the @jaducms account - follow the hashtag if your interested
eduwebconf: @jaducms To get things rolling, Suraj, You are the founder & CEO of Jadu. Why did you start the company? #eduweb
jaducms: #eduweb Back in 2001 - the tools to manage big websites were rubbish. So Richard and I started writing code. 10 years later here we are.
eduwebconf: @jaducms Where did the name Jadu come from? Is there a story? #eduweb
jaducms: #eduweb Jadu means ‘Magic’ in ancient Sanskrit and we really wanted a name that crystallized what our software actually did…
eduwebconf: @jaducms so how is Jadu Software “Magic” as your name claims? What makes it so? #eduweb
jaducms: #eduweb ...we found the name in a very old lexicon in a dark corner of the web, and it kind of stuck. Jadugars are magicians
eduwebconf: @jaducms How long has Jadu served the Content Management Market? #eduweb
jaducms: #eduweb We try very hard to make the complex - very simple. So the most sophisticated publishing tasks are made easy.
jaducms: #eduweb well, we started writing code in 2001 and deployed our first major Government system in 2002 - since since then really
eduwebconf: @jaducms Describe the Jadu culture in 140 characters. One Tweet. #eduweb
jaducms: #eduweb Simplicity is a religion.
eduwebconf: @jaducms Very nice! That was way under the 140… Describe the Jadu mission in 140 characters. #eduweb
jaducms: #eduweb To organise information across the enterprise and make content accessible to humans and machines. Simple - but very hard.
eduwebconf: @jaducms What makes the JaduCMS unique? What is the differentiator? #eduweb
jaducms: #eduweb and we are also single minded and fixed on our mission. We all love the web.
0 jaducms: #eduweb Jadu is unique in many ways. We don’t follow the norm and build what everyday people need from web software. We meet a demand…
jaducms: #eduweb ...we try and build simple, powerful and beautiful software - which sadly is quite rare in the enterprise market.
eduwebconf: @jaducms You are right…there is a lot of “ugly” software out there. What Markets does Jadu primarily serve? #eduweb
jaducms: #eduweb We have Galaxies http://jadu.co.uk/galaxies We have a RESTful API - and we have XFORMS Pro http://jadu.co.uk/xforms
eduwebconf: @jaducms Who is your most recent Higher Ed client to implement the Jadu CMS? #eduweb
jaducms: #eduweb We work with really big orgs, with lots of content - so mainly Higher Ed and Government, and some big commercial orgs too.
jaducms: #eduweb Recent to golive was http://leeds.ac.uk - they have 4 or 5 implementations of Jadu -in libraries too: http://library.leeds.ac.uk
jaducms: #eduweb Leeds made their site themselves and build a killer coursefinder too: http://www.leeds.ac.uk/coursefinder
eduwebconf: @jaducms What should a Higher Ed. Institution consider before deciding on a CMS? #eduweb
jaducms: #eduweb Scalability is very important. But so is the fundamental thing - when was the CMS built and by whom…
jaducms: #eduweb If the modern web isn’t built in to the DNA, you’ll be changing CMS again in 3-5 years. The old push model is definitely out…
jaducms: #eduweb Its all about dynamic, data driven, reactive and light weight sites. Content should be a service.
eduwebconf: @jaducms What about OpenSource solutions? I’ve been hearing about HEI’s using Open Source Technology. #eduweb
jaducms: #eduweb Open source is great - we love it. Jadu is built on LAMP. We even open source our .NET compiler ‘Phalanger’...
3W eduwebconf: @jaducms How long does it take to put in a commercial grade CMS at a mid-size Higher Education Institution? #eduweb
jaducms: #eduweb But it comes down to choice. Folks will always by Apple, Microsoft over Linux - but folks are fanatical for Linux (we love it)...
jaducms: #eduweb ...at Jadu we all use Macs. But Open Source CMS can suck as much as proprietary…
jaducms: #eduweb You see a lot of great things happening with Drupal - that’s really encouraging. Especially for pushing CMS in general way forward.
jaducms: #eduweb I think it comes down to choice. If your a big org investing in OpenSource -then OpenSource should be at the heart of your strategy
eduwebconf: @jaducms What are biggest pitfalls a University or College needs to watch out for during a CMS implementation? What can go wrong? #eduweb
jaducms: #eduweb The Information Architecture is closely followed by the site design are the two big political issues…
jaducms: #eduweb But the one thing about CMS in a large organisation - especially an Institution - is the need for Editorial Policy & good Governance
eduwebconf: @jaducms Last Question - What can we expect to see from Jadu in 2011? What do you have in the pipeline? Anything you can share? #eduweb
jaducms: #eduweb A good internal communicator on the project always helps too.
jaducms: @eduweb 2011 will be an amazing year for our customers. The Magic is only just starting and we have some magical products coming soon…
eduwebconf: @jaducms Suraj, thanks so much for the great information. We look forward to seeing you at the eduWEB Conference in July. #eduweb
