eduwebconf: Hello everyone, we are getting ready for our twitterview with Karine Joly. #eduweb
karinejoly: #eduweb Hi Amy, ready to go. Shoot!
eduwebconf: Thanks for joining us Karine. How long have you been doing Higher Ed “stuff”? #eduweb
karinejoly: #eduweb collegewebeditor.com since Feb 2005, before that a couple of years as a College Web Editor and @higheredexperts for 3 years
eduwebconf: (1/2) So you’ve seen some changes in that time, yes? #eduweb
eduwebconf: (2/2) Can you talk about the shifts you’ve noticed in Higher Ed marketing over the past 12 months. #eduweb
karinejoly: Yes, change has been a fact of life. Over the past 12 months, the mobile web has finally started to bubble up #eduweb
eduwebconf: How has the mobile web changed the way you work? #eduweb
karinejoly: #eduweb QR code, mobile version of websites. I researched those a year ago for a UB column http://bit.ly/g9rfE (expand) and there were not many.
eduwebconf: What is a QR code, for those of us not caught up? #eduweb
Karine Joly #eduweb a QR code is a 2-D visual code, an image, containing information. You can take a pic of it, & it will trigger an action on ur phone
eduwebconf: What would you like more time do? #eduweb
karinejoly: #eduweb I included an example in my UB column published last year: http://bit.ly/g9rfE (expand) and even included 1 in the eduWeb program last year
eduwebconf: QB Codes - right,I saw MIT present on that last spring, great possibilities. #eduweb
eduwebconf: I and most of the people following will be reading that article after we finish up, I bet! #eduweb
karinejoly: #eduweb I’ve also noticed a back-to-basics trend in institutions with the realization that websites are major channels for universities
eduwebconf: You get to see the big trends, but I wonder, what are those of us in the trenches missing? #eduweb
karinejoly: #eduweb I think we also need to focus more on measuring, analytics to better allocate time and money
eduwebconf: re: analytics, I agree - I find people are mystified when I show them details about their sites. Especially time on pages stats. #eduweb
eduwebconf: Just a couple more questions and then I’ll let you get back to your day. #eduweb
eduwebconf: Is there a presentation you can’t wait to see at #EduWeb?
karinejoly: #eduweb we tend to want to play with the latest shiny toys (even if we call then tools
, but we really need to focus on the basics
karinejoly: #eduweb well, first I’m curious to see the keynote
eduwebconf: The keynote - that would be Teresa (Terry) Flannery, from American University, Washington, D.C. #eduweb
eduwebconf: Terry’s keynote is on “Brand ArchiTECHture ... Building Your Brand on the Web and Managing to make it Thrive” #eduweb
karinejoly: #eduweb then, there’s @markgr Higher Education: The Toughest Gig in all the Web- Mark is a great speaker.
eduwebconf: re: Twitter wall - very brave. #eduweb
eduwebconf: The whole conference looks fantastic and a great chance for people to spend a couple of days getting caught up and moving forward. #eduweb
